Five Sets of Solar Patio Lights That Won’t Break The Bank

One of the reasons for buying solar lights is to save money, not spend more of it.  Therefore it’s important to looks for the best prices and deals available when shopping for a set of patio lights.  There are several things you should look for when you are trying to save money.  First, go for metal lights over plastic lights if at all possible.  Plastic tends to degrade in the sun and won’t last as long as solar lights with aluminum or copper finishes.  Second, try to buy in bulk.  Buying a set of 10 lights will be cheaper than buying five sets of 2 lights.

Without further ado, here are my five selections of quality yet cheap solar patio lights.

1. Westinghouse 6 Piece Copper Inwood II Solar Lights Set (403206-15)

This set of six lights has an expensive-looking copper finish, which is sure to add dignity and class to your patio. Though not terribly bright, they will stay on late into the night and provide excellent decorative lighting.

2. Malibu Outdoor Metal Bollard Four-Light Solar Powered Light Kit

This set of four lights is a bit more expensive than the Westinghouses above, but you may find the added cost worth it. They have an external solar cell which is large enough to collect a lot of light, and their metal and glass construction is pretty durable. Plus they use LEDs which make them even more efficient and likely to last the whole night. These actually aren’t very cheap at all, but they’re just so good that I had to include them.

3. Paradise 8-Piece Plastic Solar Garden Light Set (GL23050BK8 )

I know I said to not go for plastic, but this eight light set is a really good deal. The lights themselves are pretty fragile, but they provide excellent light coverage and provide a lot of bang for your buck.

4. Moonrays 10-Piece Verona Style Solar Powered Plastic Path Light (91225)

Alright another plastic set. Again, these definitely won’t last forever, but you get ten decent solar lights for thirty bucks. At that price you can afford to have some fail on you.

5. Westinghouse 6 Piece Stainless Steel Inwood II Solar Lights Set (403206-41SP )

These are basically a repeat of the copper Westinghouse Inwood II set, just with a different finish. They cost about ten dollar more, but that may be a price you’re will to pay for stainless steel instead of copper. Personally, I prefer copper though.

Five Reasons To Buy Solar Patio Lights

When it comes to using energy efficiently, indoor and outdoor lighting is one of the major culprits of waste.  However, by replacing some of your wired outdoor lighting with solar alternatives, you’ll make a difference for both the environment and your pocket book.  Believe it or not, however, there are more reasons to invest in solar patio lighting than just saving money and saving the environment.

1.  Ease of Installation

Installing outdoor solar lighting is a snap!  Because you don’t have to worry about stringing electric cables from fixture to fixture, you typically can just shove the light in the ground (in a spot that receives sunlight of course) and it will be ready to illuminate your patio that very night!

2.  More Installation Locations

In addition to being easy to install, you’ll find that you will be able to place solar powered lights in locations that are impossible for ordinary, corded lighting.  By this I mean you’ll be able to put your lights far away from your house without having to worry about mowing over any cables, or burying cables underground.

3.  Solar Lighting Is More Durable

Because there are no cords to fray or wires to short out, your lighting fixtures should outlast their corded cousins.  Just keep the solar panel clean and they’ll keep on shining!

4.  Solar Patio Lights Save Money

Though solar lights may cost more initially, they’ll save you valuable installation time and money on your electric bill.

5.  Solar Energy Is Better For The Environment

This reason is arguably the most important.  Granted solar backyard lights won’t end global warming or solve the energy crisis, but they won’t add to it either.  Ordinary light bulbs are horrendously inefficient as it is… they waste most of their energy in heat.  But with a solar power source, this becomes less of an issue because energy from the sun is clean and renewable.

Well there you have it, five reasons to invest in a quality set of solar lights for your yard.  You’ll appreciate their ease of installation and versatility, as well as their rugged durability.  In addition, you’ll save money on your electric bill and benefit the environment, making solar lighting an excellent alternative to wired lights for your patio.
